Brazil had set a 20 May deadline to appoint a new coach, which initially created uncertainty over Ancelotti’s move as talks with Madrid stalled. However, the verbal agreement between Ancelotti and the club should allow him to take charge of Brazil for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, against Ecuador and Paraguay. He is expected to sign a contract with the Brazilian Football Federation that will keep him in charge until the end of the World Cup cycle next year.
With Ancelotti set to leave at the end of the season, Real Madrid will need to act quickly to find a successor, especially with the Club World Cup set to begin in mid-June.
