Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that midfielder Romeo Lavia has suffered another injury setback, forcing him back onto the sidelines.

Lavia had recently returned from a hamstring injury, making a brief appearance in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal before the international break—his third appearance of 2025 and 13th across all competitions this season. However, he has now encountered another issue, picking up a problem during training ahead of Thursday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

“He was making progress, but unfortunately, one day ago, he had another small issue,” Maresca explained. “We’ll see in the next hours how things develop.”

Injuries have plagued Lavia since his £53m move to Chelsea in 2023. The 21-year-old arrived at the club unfit and has struggled with a series of injuries, limiting him to just one appearance and 32 minutes of Premier League action during his debut season.

Lavia started the first game of the 2024/25 campaign but has since suffered a hamstring injury, with two more setbacks this season, restricting him to only 596 minutes across all competitions.

On a more positive note, Maresca confirmed that Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, and Cole Palmer are all fit and available for selection.

“Cole is back, he’s okay, he’s better, Noni is better, Nico is better, and yeah, they are all good,” Maresca said.
