Enzo Maresca has declined to comment on whether Jadon Sancho will remain at Chelsea next season but acknowledged the winger’s performance has not been up to standard this term.
Sancho, currently on loan from Manchester United with an obligation for Chelsea to buy him for £25m, could reportedly be released from that agreement by paying a £5m penalty fee.
The player himself is said to be interested in returning to his former club Borussia Dortmund, where he made his mark between 2017 and 2021, and also spent part of last season on loan.

“I’m completely focused on the next nine games, two months to go, and I’m focused on that,” Maresca told reporters when asked about Sancho’s future. “What happens in the summer, we’ll see. The situation with Jadon doesn’t change. In terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt. It’s not just Jadon; we have more players in the same situation.”
Sancho has contributed nine goal involvements in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring just twice. During his peak years at Dortmund, he was almost consistently involved in a goal per game.
The 25-year-old continues to start matches for Chelsea but has yet to score in 2025, with his last assist coming in January, three months ago. Sancho himself has admitted to being “annoyed” by his lack of goals this season.
Chelsea have also been linked with Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, a young English talent who, like Sancho, moved to Germany to advance his career. If Sancho does leave Chelsea and return to Dortmund, he could ironically be the one to make way for Gittens at Signal Iduna Park.
