Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged his players to perform better following their 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday.

Declan Rice’s second-half goal leveled the score after Bruno Fernandes’ stunning free-kick had put United ahead.

The result leaves the Gunners 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, although they have one game in hand.

“When we had the first half that we had, which was exceptional, we didn’t test the goalkeeper,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “We had some incredible situations, but we failed to get the final shot or the last pass.”

“We didn’t capitalize on those moments, rushed the game, and started losing duels. We could have ended up losing.”

Reflecting on Arsenal’s attacking issues, Arteta added, “Sometimes that’s what’s missing. The execution needs to reach the right player, and that player has to take the shot. How we conceded chances in certain moments wasn’t acceptable.”

“They have so much quality, and they usually make the right choice, which often leads to a goal.”

“We opened the door to losing the game. There was no reason to lose, but we opened it ourselves. I will always defend my players, but in those moments, we need to do better.”
