Actress, producer, and Nollywood director Deborah Ewedafe has talked openly about her early hardships in the entertainment business, including the time she gave up performing because of her father’s disapproval.

Ewedafe said in an exclusive interview on Kunle Afod’s official YouTube channel that her father, a pastor, was adamantly against her choosing to pursue acting due to the unfavorable opinion of actresses.

According to her, he believed that many women in the industry were often promiscuous, which made him uncomfortable with her career choice.

Despite her passion for acting, she chose to respect her father’s wishes and stepped away from the industry for several years. However, her love for entertainment never faded, and she eventually found a way to reconnect with her dreams.

After spending some time away from the industry, Ewedafe relocated to Europe, where she rekindled her interest in entertainment. It was during her time there that she started playing a key role in bringing Nollywood stars to Europe for movie productions.

Her efforts not only helped in film collaborations but also strengthened her working relationships with industry professionals.

Ewedafe’s journey in Nollywood took a major turn in 2019 when she fully re-entered the industry, this time as a producer. Since then, she has successfully produced several films, making a name for herself as a notable filmmaker.

In her words; “I joined the entertainment industry in 1990. My father was a pastor and didn’t want me to go into acting because he believed most actresses were usually promiscuous. So, I stopped to obey my parents. After some years, I relocated to Europe, where I rekindled my interest in the entertainment industry. Eventually, I started inviting Nollywood stars to Europe so we could produce movies together and also have time to engage with them to build strong working relationships. In 2019, I fully ventured into Nollywood and have since produced several movies.”
