Arne Slot emphasizes that Liverpool still face “many challenges” ahead, despite opening up an 11-point lead.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is cautioning against getting ahead of themselves despite his team’s impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City, which has put them 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Although Liverpool dropped points in recent matches against Everton and Aston Villa, Arsenal’s unexpected loss to West Ham and Sunday’s dominant victory at the Etihad have put the Reds in a commanding position. With only 11 league games left to play and Arsenal struggling with injuries, many see the win as a pivotal moment in the 2024/25 title race.

However, Slot, who previously won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, downplayed its significance.

“I’m mostly happy because we won at the Etihad, and that’s not something that happens often. It was my first time here, and not many teams or managers win here, so we should be happy about that,” Slot said in a post-match interview with BBC Match of the Day. “Just a week ago, we had a tough win against Wolves. I know all 11 remaining games will be difficult for different reasons. We have a lot of challenges ahead, but it’s a good position to be in.”

With seven of their remaining league matches at Anfield, Liverpool’s chances of securing a record-tying 20th English league title have improved.

Left-back Andrew Robertson acknowledged that fans may get carried away with the team’s performance but insisted the players would stay focused. “We know our fans will get carried away, and we’ve always said if that happens, it means we’re doing something right on the pitch,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “But it won’t be on us to get carried away until we’re champions. We have to keep pushing, and there’s no room for complacency.”
