Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has informed the Serie A club that he will not be renewing his contract when it expires in June 2026, according to Soccernet.

The coach has been in the spotlight following his post-match comments after Atalanta’s elimination from the Champions League by Club Brugge. After losing 2-1 in Belgium, La Dea conceded three first-half goals at home, effectively ending their hopes in the tie. Ademola Lookman scored once but missed a penalty during the match.

Following the game, Gasperini criticized Lookman, calling him the worst penalty taker he has ever seen. In response, Lookman took to social media, clarifying that he had been entrusted with the penalty by the designated taker.

Multiple club meetings have been held in an attempt to resolve the rift between Gasperini and Lookman, but the situation now seems irreparable. Gasperini, who has been with the club since 2016, is expected to depart either this summer through mutual termination or when his contract expires next year. Lookman, meanwhile, is also likely to leave at the end of the current season.
