Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, as concerns grow over Robert Sanchez’s recent performances. Sanchez, under intense scrutiny after a series of high-profile errors, has made five mistakes this season that directly led to goals, including one in the 3-1 loss to Manchester City.
Despite these issues, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has refrained from publicly criticizing Sanchez, a stance that has frustrated many fans. However, according to The Independent, there is private acknowledgment within the club that Sanchez may not be the ideal fit for Maresca’s system.
Kobel, who was first linked to Chelsea late last year, remains a key target for the club. Manchester United are also reportedly interested in the Dortmund keeper, as they, too, may need to address their goalkeeper situation with Andre Onana continuing to struggle with errors. However, United are believed to have other priorities in the transfer market, making a push for a new goalkeeper unlikely.

The Athletic reports that Chelsea will not look to replace Sanchez this month, and it remains uncertain whether they will pursue a new keeper in the summer. The club is optimistic about the potential of 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen, signed from Villarreal last year, and is also excited about 19-year-old Mike Penders, who will join in June from Genk for £17m.
Maresca has previously stated that his high-risk playing style could lead to goalkeeper errors, and he would only be concerned about Sanchez if the Spaniard stopped taking the risks that have sometimes led to mistakes.
