Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo has praised Patrick Dorgu for regaining his focus amid intense interest from Manchester United.

Dorgu is United’s top target to strengthen their left-back position, but the Red Devils have yet to meet Lecce’s €40m (£33.8m) asking price. They have submitted two offers for the Denmark international, with the latest bid at €30m (£25.3m).

Giampaolo acknowledged that the transfer speculation initially affected Dorgu, but the 20-year-old has recently managed to block out the distractions.

“This week he’s been good, but last week he was a bit distracted,” Giampaolo said. “He’s 20 years old, everyone is talking about him, and the best European clubs are calling for him—it’s normal, he’s human.”

“However, he’s very mature. He had a dip in focus last week, but in the past few days I’ve seen him in good shape. I’ve spoken to him, and I don’t think the transfer market is upsetting him.”

United are expected to make a third bid for Dorgu, who is reportedly keen on the move. However, ESPN reports that if they fail to secure Dorgu, they may look to re-sign Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, who left United’s academy last summer. Carreras has a buy-back clause of approximately €18m (£15.2m), though he recently stated he’s in no rush to leave Benfica.
