Chelsea are reportedly advancing their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho, with plans to approach Manchester United for formal negotiations over a potential January transfer.

Garnacho, once a key player under Erik ten Hag, has seen his role diminished under new head coach Ruben Amorim. The Argentine winger has started only four of the last 11 Premier League matches and has featured just once since being dropped from the matchday squad ahead of last month’s derby.

Amad Diallo has emerged as the primary beneficiary of Garnacho’s reduced game time, frequently linking up with Bruno Fernandes in advanced midfield roles.

Napoli, who recently sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, have also been linked with Garnacho but have so far balked at United’s steep asking price. As a backup plan, the Italian club is reportedly preparing an offer for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have already contacted Garnacho’s representatives to gauge his interest in a move to Stamford Bridge. With indications of a positive response, Chelsea are now preparing to open talks with Manchester United.

Historically, Chelsea and United have shown a willingness to negotiate when mutually beneficial. Notable transfers between the clubs include Juan Mata’s £37.1m switch to Old Trafford in January 2014, as well as deals involving Mason Mount, Nemanja Matic, and Mark Hughes.

Whether Garnacho ultimately joins Chelsea remains uncertain, but both clubs appear set to explore the possibility in the coming weeks.
