Uruguayan footballer Robert Carmona, 62, holds the title of the world’s oldest living professional football player, according to a report by Marca. His remarkable feat has earned him official recognition from the Guinness World Records.
Carmona’s football journey began in 1976, and since then, he has played for 49 teams, amassing over 2,000 appearances. Despite his age, his love for the game remains as strong as ever, and he continues to play without a formal contract, relying on verbal agreements with clubs.
Though his salary is modest and doesn’t offer financial security, Carmona supplements his income through sports-related activities and appearances at events. “I lack nothing in my life,” he said, reflecting his satisfaction with his career.

In a recent interview, Carmona credited discipline and dedication for his longevity in the game. “Since I was a child, I knew I had the skills to be a great footballer,” he explained. “I’ve always believed that training is key to success, and that’s why I’ve been playing for 49 years.”
His work ethic mirrors that of global football icons, like Cristiano Ronaldo. “Cristiano Ronaldo and I are similar in terms of professionalism,” Carmona remarked.
Now, Carmona is pursuing a contract with the 50th club of his career after recently leaving Nuevo Casabo, a team in Uruguay’s fourth division.
