Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shed more light on Erling Haaland’s new long-term contract with the club.

On Friday, the Premier League champions announced that the Norwegian striker had signed a nine-and-a-half-year deal, extending his stay at City until he turns 33.

When asked about the unusually lengthy contract, Guardiola said:
“The club decided it. Erling wouldn’t have signed it if he didn’t see himself being here in 10 years. Both the club and Erling agreed on it.”

Guardiola was also questioned if the extended deal was aimed at protecting Haaland’s market value. He responded:
“In situations like this, the player feels it. He believes this is the right move for his career, and of course, he is a special player. The club made a huge effort to bring him in, and he committed to it.”
